What Women Want
-

A social experiment,
kuching 2017

Picture
Men are from Mars, Women are from Venus.

So I've decided that I'd like to take out some time to figure out what goes on in Venus and to ultimately answer the million dollar question to my best extent...

WHAT DO WOMEN WANT?

Picture
Popular belief, women want to shop. It's been commonly portrayed in the mainstream media, with franchises even built around that sole theme of women and their love of retail therapy.

Picture
Then there's the social stigma that women want to stay in the kitchen, which can be true (and that in itself can be a beautiful thing); however, according to the social circles I've consciously spent more time with...

Lots of women nowadays want to spend a lot more time out there chasing a dream, growing a career, getting a promotion; instead of making a sandwich.

Shoes.
Well, of course there is shoes.
Again, popular belief.
Women want shoes, I'll admit I want shoes too. There has always existed among women an attraction to beautiful things, (again I'm talking about the majority; bearing in mind that everyone is uniquely different.)

------------

So,
what exactly am I getting to?

I have always felt there hasn't been enough light shed on the (less materialistic) things that women really want. It's always been okay to highlight women's intense obsession with shopping and taking hours to put on makeup; in fact people find it humorous. However, when there's discussion regarding women intensely pursuing equal pay in the workplace (as fellow male colleagues), more opportunities for promotions, leadership roles etc...

its always hush hush.

This social experiment wants to explore the less explored version of what women want. Be it in family, relationships, career, aspirations, everything!! Women shouldn't be afraid to voice their wants and hopefully we can all support each other (men included) in creating a safe environment where women are encouraged to have opinions, strong ones too.

We want to raise a generation of women that do not see themselves as lesser than what they truly are.

"Historically men have always had a louder voice, so women need the time and space to let their voices be heard fully"

THE PROCESS

Picture
Over the next few weeks, I will be documenting a bunch of key influencing people in our community. We're looking for role models, strong powerful women, of all ages. This will lead up to the "workshop/ coffee table convo" that I'd like to invite all of you to be part of on the 12th of March 2017 at The Granary Kitchen & Bar. (What Women Want Weekend)

Besides the filming, I'm currently trying to piece together a little questionnaire/survey. Including questions from
(1) What is the most important trait when looking for a life partner?
(2) Who pays on the first date? & why?
to
(3) What do women want, Respect or Attention? Be honest.
(4) As a women, can you be both strong and sensitive at the same time?

So yeah!
Lots to do, and lots to learn.
If you'd like to be part of this What Women Want Project, please let me know.
(Brainstorm, filming, writing, design work, or anything really);

Also please feel free to give me suggestions on questions to ask, or on people I should interview.
I'd like to her from all of you (male or female).

Finally, someone is getting to the root of what we really want. It took me six decades to figure it out and I am happy to share the revelations.

Hello Betty!

I've heard so much about you from Shentel and I really would love to get your take on this topic. I wish I could film you too but if it's not too troublesome could I get you to share your revelations in writing and email them to me at soolxproductions@gmail.com

I'd love to publish it and include it into the project.

'women want to be in the kitchen' isn't THE social stigma. The social stigma is that 'it's a woman's responsibility to be in the kitchen' vs what she REALLY wants.

imho Respect and Attention isn't mutually exclusive - one begets the other. If people respect you, they'll be prepared to pay attention to you.

Speaking of respect - for guys out there complaining 'women these days don't want to stay in the kitchen anymore' - this is because you DON'T respect what she does in there. Think about it carefully, when do people fall over in awe when you say you're a housemaker? When the fact that taking care of a household is not an easy thing to do? You get glib comments like 'it's what women do, they're born to do it' as though it is something that can be easily brushed off. Think of the sacrifices the mothers of the world had to make to raise a family. The problem here is when such feats by woman is seen as trivial, 'normalized' to a point that it is considered worthless. We need to give these women their due respect, and consider it a job/ position worthy of praise of anyone successful in e.g corporate field.
