Siniawan Night Market
A small town with a big personality,
and yummy food.
Siniawan Night Market is one of those much talked about weekend night market that I've always wanted to go to but never made the effort. It's quite a drive from Kuching city and I've had car sickness for as long as I can remember (only officially got over it last year), which is probably why I've had to wait so long before deciding on heading over to this little treasure spot.
We had bbq pork, bbq curry-isn stingray and bbq lamb (so good, highly reccomend the lamb) as well as fried oyster omelette, bamboo chicken, some chicken thingy...
Honestly, the food was pretty good but not out-of-this-world. Everything was tasty but borderline on the salty side. My favourite dish of the night would be the 'Cucumber leaves'. (the one in the picture that is mixed with baby corn)
I wish I had the vocabulary to describe it but I don't and I'd rather you just try it for yourself. It's a good kind of strange!
Karaoke throughout the night
Old but gold.
It's a nice change of scenery from modern day Kuching, feels like you've stepped into a time portal and travelled back to Kuching 20 odd years ago. The wooden houses, the plastic chairs, the overall lack of physical perfection yet the service level of family...
